Public Speaking Academy

Virtual and Location TBA

Published: Nov 15, 2023

Event date: 5/7/2024 - 5/8/2024 Export event

If you’re like most people, you have a fear of public speaking that’s right up there with death, heights, and NCUA audits. That fear discourages you from presenting to groups of any size because public speaking seems like a mysterious skill mastered by only a select few. The LCUL Public Speaking Academy is here to change that.

Through the Academy, you’ll practice a series of simple and powerful techniques for crafting messages that resonate with every audience, every time. You’ll come away with renewed confidence to share your insights with groups from 1 to 1,000, and help you build deeper relationships with your members, teammates, and community.

This program is a three day program. The first two days will be held virtually on May 7 and 8, and the third and final day will be in-person on May 14th.

Topics will include:

  • Planning: Understanding audience needs; Determining the purpose of your presentation

  • Composing: Capturing the audience’s attention; Incorporating powerful stories, examples, and statistics; Sequencing for attention and impact; Avoiding “Death by PowerPoint"

  • Practicing: The best methods for rehearsing your presentation; Objectively evaluating yourself

  • Delivering: Defeating the “talking terrors”; Handling anxiety; Finding your unique style
