Southwest Louisiana Credit Union Awards Four Scholarships

Southwest Louisiana Credit Union (SWLACU) has awarded four $1,000 scholarships to deserving Louisiana students.

Each year, SWLACU awards four Financial Empowerment Scholarships. The scholarship application portal opens every April and closes at the end of July.

This year two were awarded to recent high school graduates, and two were awarded to current college students. The scholarship can be used for anything that supports their education—housing, books, tuition, etc.

This year’s recipients are as follows:

  • Torian Lay, Hahnville High School. Lay is a 2023 high school graduate and is attending McNeese State University studying medicine. He plans to become a pediatrician and open his own practice.
  • Knyles Randall, LaGrange High School (not pictured). Randall is a 2023 high school graduate and is attending Louisiana State University. He plans to leverage his education and experiences to make a meaningful impact in the world.
  • Jasmine Semien, McNeese State University. Semien is currently studying Mass Communications and is a radio show host at McNeese. She plans on going to graduate school to receive her masters in pastoral leadership.
  • Jasmine Jones, McNeese State University. Upon completion of her degree, Jones’ goal is to pursue a career in Medical Laboratory Science. She plans to work at a fertility clinic as an Embryologist.
