Meritus CU Partners with Junior Achievement of Acadiana for Financial Literacy Day at Prairie Elementary

Meritus Credit Union partnered with Junior Achievement of Acadiana for a Financial Literacy Program (also known as JA Day) for approximately 680 students (K-5th grade) at Prairie Elementary School in Lafayette, Louisiana.

JA Day is a fun, intensive crash course on business and economic concepts for school students. Taught by volunteers in the classroom, JA's traditional multi-week school curriculums are condensed into one, action-packed and exciting day long experience. “This event provides crucial financial literacy skills for students attending Prairie Elementary and will be the 17th year this event has been hosted schoolwide,” says Lauren Fitts, Junior Achievement of Acadiana Development Director.

“Meritus Credit Union is committed to creating positive change in the communities we serve. Empowering our youth at Prairie Elementary with education and skills from the JA Day program establishes a foundation for their future financial wellness,” said Brian Leger, Meritus Credit Union President/CEO.

In attendance for this event were the following community leaders: Lafayette Parish School System Superintendent Francis Touchet, Lafayette Parish School System Board Member David LeJeune and Lafayette City Marshal Reggie Thomas.
