Maple FCU Celebrates Branch Renovations

Maple Federal Credit Union held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently in celebration of its remodeled branch at 4017 Darnall Rd. in New Iberia, La. The project brings a series of energy efficiency and crucial infrastructure upgrades, including a new drive-thru service and ATM.

The interior renovations, which includes enhanced lighting, a new teller area, flooring, and technical enhancements, were built to empower Maple FCU’s team and to better serve its members. Meanwhile, in addition to the new drive-thru and ATM, the exterior received several upgrades as part of the credit union’s mission to be the “perfect place for imperfect people.”

“The renovations at the Morton Weeks branch have brought excitement to our community,” said Branch Manager Joel Songne. “Now that we have a full-service facility to serve their financial needs, I feel our community, as well as Maple, will grow and thrive.”

In late 2020, Morton Weeks Federal Credit Union approached Maple FCU as a merger partner. Maple has long served the New Iberia area with the acquisition of the Iberia Medial Center Credit Union in 2004, and a partner with a physical footprint would serve a steady membership base.

“On May 19, 2021 we made a promise to the board and members of Morton Weeks FCU to invest in their facility and in their community,” said Jay Castille, board chairman. “What we see today in this upgrade is our follow through on that promise. I am proud of what we have accomplished here and look forward to the growth to come for this branch, and the community of Lydia and Iberia Parish.”

Since the merger with Morton Weeks FCU, the branch has experienced loan growth of 134% and 8% membership growth.

“Renovating the Morton Weeks branch allowed us to provide full-service access to our members, including a drive-thru and providing a surcharge free ATM for their community,” said CEO Pamela Stelly. “It is my hope that the membership recognizes our dedication to them and our intent to be a partner in increasing their financial well-being as well as that of their family and community.”

In March, the $68.8 million credit union reported a year-over year rise in loans and total assets of more than 9 percent. Deposits gained by nearly 10 percent.
