La Capitol Enters the ‘Lion’s Den’ to Bolster SLU Athletics

La Southeastern Louisiana University students attending the annual Strawberry Jam returned to campus and were greeted by expanded support from La Capitol Federal Credit Union, the newly-announced Official Credit Union Partner of Southeastern Athletics.

La Capitol participated Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in the annual back-to school bash that included more than 1,000 new and returning students to the Hammond campus. The Jam, hosted by Southeastern Athletics, was held in Strawberry Stadium kicking off the 2024-25 SLU Athletics year.

The La Capitol partnership offers new opportunities for outreach that will include providing financial literacy to the athletes helping them become fiscally smart as they advance their education and careers. “La Cap has been a fixture in the Southeastern community for the past 25 years and we are ready to ‘Lion Up’ to the next level,” said Interim Sales and Business Development Manager and SLU alum Lindsey Robinson. “This partnership solidifies our commitment to the University’s continued growth and success.”

Financial education continues to be a growing need in today’s sports arena. The top SLU athletic official sees many “win-win” plays in the making. “I’m really excited about our new partnership with La Capitol Federal Credit Union,” said SLU Athletic Director Jay Artigues. “This is going to be a great partnership that’s going to benefit us both and we really appreciate their support … Lion Up!“

Hammond, the largest city in Tangipahoa Parish, is home to Southeastern Louisiana University, a public institution founded in 1925 that enrolls about 12,000 students on its 365-acre campus. The La Capitol branch, located at 1004 N. Oak St., is adjacent to the SLU campus with easy access for faculty, staff, and student body. It is one of 15 branches of the credit union across Louisiana.

The parish is a major producer of strawberries, hence the name of the stadium and annual Jam. This year’s celebration featured the Spirit of the Southland band, sponsor give-a-ways, and a pep rally featuring football, soccer, and volleyball teams.
