La Cap Heightens Role in Celebration of Bayou Sports Legends

La Capitol FCU has long supported the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, but with an induction class that includes Saints legend Drew Brees and LSU and WNBA star Seimone Augustus, it celebrates a new distinction: Official Credit Union of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

La Capitol has played an active role for 19 years in the event that supports the Natchitoches area and has a financial impact on the Historical Natchitoches Downtown district. In addition, La Capitol representatives from around the state will provide hands-on support.

During the June 20 Welcome Reception, Jeremy Dunbar, La Capitol Interim Human Resources Manager, will give the opening remarks before the press conference and mingling time for the public to enjoy the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Museum and visit with the inductees.

Two La Capitol teams will participate in the Celebrity Bowling Bash on Friday, June 21 at Four Seasons Bowling Center in Alexandria. Saturday morning, La Capitol volunteers will participate in the Junior Training Camp on the Northwestern campus. In addition to providing giveaways, La Capitol staff will provide information on the importance of saving and La Cap’s youth saving account.  Later in the day, La Capitol will be a Table Sponsor at Round Table Luncheon hosted by Fox Sports broadcaster Tim Brando.

In addition to Brees and Augustus, the other inductees are Perry Clark, who guided Tulane basketball to unprecedented success in the 1990s; mixed martial arts champion Daniel Cormier of Lafayette; retired Grambling baseball coach Wilbert Ellis, the second-ever recipient of the Louisiana Sports Ambassador Award; 1992 Olympic wrestling gold medalist and LSU All-American Kevin Jackson; McNeese football great Kerry Joseph, who had a 19-year pro career on several teams; high school football coach Frank Monica, who won state titles at three different south Louisiana schools; and Ray Sibille, a Breeders’ Cup-winning thoroughbred jockey from Sunset who ranks among the nation’s elite riders.

Longtime Southland Conference commissioner Tom Burnett will be inducted as the 2024 Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award recipient and the Sports Journalism inductees will be Bobby Ardoin and Ron Higgins.

Two winners from a La Capitol social media sweepstakes will attend events and top-performing sales staff members will be rewarded with a day of bowling with the inductees.

“The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation’s mission is to celebrate the accomplishments of Louisiana’s extraordinary athletes, coaches, and sports administrators,” said La Capitol Interim Sales and Business Development Manager Lindsey Robinson who also serves on the Hall of Fame Board. “Our goal is to create a platform for stories of the “best of the best” to inspire the youth of today to reach for the stars.”
