Ascension Credit Union Awards $7,000 in Scholarships

Ascension Credit Union (ACU) awarded $7,000 in scholarships to graduating members from seven (7) Ascension parish high schools. Each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.

Ascension Credit Union holds an annual essay contest for its graduating members from local high schools for a $1,000 scholarship to assist with college expenses. The ACU Scholarship Committee carefully reviews each essay submitted and considers the seniors GPA, extracurricular activities, any special awards and recognition, field of study chosen for college and the reasons for chosen that field before selecting one recipient from each Ascension parish high school.

“Each year we provide scholarships for local high school students in an effort to recognize scholastic achievement, community involvement and excellence in character,” said Lloyd Cockerham, President / CEO of Ascension CU. “There were so many impressive applications this year, it was hard to choose just seven (7) winners. Helping these local students pursue their educational journey and financial goals is at the heart of how we support the Ascension Parish community,” said Cockerham.
