Mortgage Servicing Specialist: Metairie

Description Role: The Mortgage Servicing Specialist is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of mortgage servicing, including processing loan payments, managing escrow accounts for taxes and insurance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role involves coordinating with members and third parties to maintain accurate records, resolve issues, and provide exceptional member service throughout the mortgage servicing process.

Requirements Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Input internet applications, gather necessary documents for processing and underwriting, and address process inquiries. Analyze financial status, recommend loan approvals within limits and refer others to management. Cross-sell loan and credit options as needed. Perform pre- and post-closing tasks, including organizing loan files, funding loans, processing payments and escrow disbursements, scanning and filing documents, handling insurance mail, recording mortgages, and following-up on payoffs. Assist in Quality Control Audits. Oversee escrow administration for real estate loans, including managing escrow analysis, verifying insurance coverage, and resolving complex issues. Maintain insurance verification lists, force-placed lender insurance, process escrow disbursements, and report problematic policies to management. Respond to member inquiries across various channels professionally. Process mortgage releases for paid off loans and report status of all title work to department managers. Assist Commercial Lending with administrative tasks as requested. Assist with the completion of monthly, quarterly, and HMDA reports including filing. Conduct light collections by contacting past-due accounts, sending demand letters, and following up on missed payment promises as needed. Maintain knowledge of lending programs, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with all regulations and demonstrate commitment to professional ethics and training. Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational needs and business goals to ensure optimal service levels.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of escrow disbursements and scheduled escrow account analysis Professional approach to assessing the credit needs of members while observing the established lending policies and guidelines. Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: One to two years of similar or related experience.

Education: A high school education or GED.

Licensing: This position is subject to SAFE Act registration requirements. Pursuant to the Safe Act Requirements, all employees engaged in residential loan mortgage origination must register with the federal registry system and remain in good standing. Since this position requires SAFE Act registration, successful candidates are required to register and to submit to the required SAFE Act background check and registration process. Failure to obtain and/or maintain SAFE Act registration may result in immediate termination. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements and continuing education.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Teamwork and cross training are a must, as all of our office staff work closely with each other to ensure the success of the credit union as a whole.

Analytical Skills – Ability to assess financial information, analyze risk, and make sound decisions.

Regulatory Knowledge – In-depth understanding of lending regulations (TILA, RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, ect.) and ability to maintain compliance.

Communication Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication for interacting with applicants, insurance agents, other third parties, and team members.

Problem-Solving – Skilled in independently researching and resolving complex issues, particularly in escrow and underwriting.

Time Management – Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate with various parties in the loan lifecycle.

Member Service – Strong focus on delivering excellent member service and addressing inquiries across multiple communication channels.

Technology Proficiency – Ability to operate general office machines and equipment such as: personal computer, loan system, keyboard/typewriters, photocopier, fax machine, postage machine, and printers. Knowledge Microsoft Office suite and proprietary software products used in support of business is a plus. Familiarity with Calyx Point and Fiserv XP2 preferred.

Organizational Skills – Capable of maintaining accurate records and ensuring proper document filing and reporting.

Ethics Standards – Commitment to upholding professional ethics and adhering to all compliance policies and regulations.
