Southwest Louisiana Credit Union Awards Four Local Students $1,000

Southwest Louisiana Credit Union recently selected the 2022 winners of their “Financial Empowerment Scholarship,” awarding four local students $1,000 each toward tuition, books, housing and other school-related expenses.

The winners of the scholarship are:

  • Ceyanna Brown, South Cameron High School. Brown plans to attend McNeese State University for pre-veterinary studies. She plans to open her own large animal clinic.
  • Keyon Jolivette, Barbe High School. Jolivette plans to attend McNeese for music. His goal is to become a member of the United States Airforce band.
  • Abel Kipkemboi, McNeese State University. Kipkemboi is an international student and is currently studying nursing at McNeese.
  • Niah Fields, Louisiana Tech University. Fields is attending Tech in music industry studies. She plans to become a singer/songwriter.

Applicants were required to write an essay detailing how they will stay on track financially during college, how they plan to give back to the community, and how the scholarship money will contribute to their success while in college.

The goal of the Financial Empowerment Scholarship is to empower students to stay on track financially throughout college and achieve success post-graduation.

Southwest Louisiana Credit Union offers scholarship winners—and others—access to free resources to help manage their money, such as financial counseling, online financial education on numerous topics, and one-on-one help with budgeting, saving, credit building and more.
